The Legend of the Cowherd and the Weaver Fairy

Förbi Chinese folk tale/ retold by: Steven Earl Yoder

This is the legend of a poor cowherd named Niulang and the fairy Zhinu he fell in love with. Niulang was a kind and helpful man and saved the life of an ox when it was sick. Later when Niulang desperately needed help, the ox repaid this kindness. The love of Niulang and Zhinu was so great that it explains where Double Seventh Day originated and why it is celebrated to this day.
